Chicago Road Trip!

This past weekend we got to do one of my favorite things ever – take a road trip!!  My family is selling a condo we inherited that’s right outside Chicago, so we had to go and move some furniture and clean it out for the new owners.

My favorite part of a road trip?  The first time you see the name of your destination on a road sign (sorry my picture is so blurry - Hodel was making me laugh and I couldn't hold the camera still enough)! :-)  You can just barely see CHICAGO on this sign!!

The condo is very close to the gigantic O’Hare Airport, so you know you’re getting close when you start hearing (and seeing) planes flying above you.  Sometimes when they’re coming in for a landing, they fly so low I get scared they might hit the car!  This one wasn't too bad, though.

Hodel and I are too small to move furniture, so we hoped we might be able to play outside while everyone else was moving stuff.  But it was raining!  Boo.

We had to find some stuff to do inside where we wouldn’t get in the way.  We sat in this cool little indoor window and pretended we were sitting on a piece of glacial ice and sailing home to America from Antarctica.  We rescued our penguin companions from some hungry sharks by pulling them onto the ice with us.

One whole wall of the living room is made of mirrors, so we practiced our dance moves  for awhile.

And of course, when there are big moving boxes around, you must play in them!

Then it finally cleared up outside, so we got to go out and play for a little bit before we had to leave.  Have you ever gotten to play under a weeping willow tree?  They are the best trees ever because the leaves are so long and thick, and when you go through them it’s like you are behind a lacy green curtain.  It makes an excellent fort or hiding spot.

Hodel and I pretended we lived under the willow.  There was a pond with a fountain right by it, so we pretended we were rich and had our very own fountain right in our front yard.

Ducks were in the pond, too – I guess they haven’t flown south for the winter quite yet.

Now we are back home and back to school as usual.  But there’s less than two weeks till Halloween!  Hodel and I decided what we are going to be on the drive home from Chicago, and I can’t wait!

  1. Hi Anna Lee and Hodel,

Wow, a road trip to Chicago - how fun! It's too bad that it was rainy, but I'm glad that you two were able to go outside later.

No, I can't say that I have ever played under a willow tree. They do look like great playhouses, though. I think I've always wanted to play under one ever since I first saw Pocahontas. Haha!

No visit to American Girl Place? That's too bad. I'd have thought you'd have gone to the store for sure.

Ooh, I'm looking forward to seeing what your Halloween costumes will be! Will you throw a Halloween party for your school friends?

    Sophie

  2. I know! We were so close to American Girl Place and I wanted to go sooo bad, but there was no time. The adults were working too hard moving stuff. :(

Probably no Halloween party this year, but maybe a Thanksgiving party, because nobody seems to throw those. :-)
